Deborah collaborated with composer Howard Alexander to write the libretto for The Last Wife, an adult opera which tells the woman’s version of the macabre tale, Bluebeard. The opera is 65 minutes in duration and features 13 singers and 11 musicians.
Deborah produced the premiere recital at the Brockville Arts Centre to a sold out audience in September 2002. Directed by Jennifer Parr, of Opera Atelier, the leading roles were performed by Curtis Sullivan (Bluebeard), Rachel Cleland (Eleanor) and Ramona Carmelly (Alora).
Support came from the Laidlaw Foundation, The Opera Program, University of Ottawa, The Brockville Operatic Society and numerous individual patrons.
The full score and libretto are available for consideration as well as audio and video recordings of the recital.
