For over 25 years Deborah has led a very active and successful career specializing in the performing arts. Originally trained as a Dramatic Arts teacher at York University and University of Toronto, her skills as a storyteller are enriched by courses in mime, clown, dance, musical theatre and voice.

The Toronto Festival of Storytelling featured Deborah at their 2005 gathering. In 2004 the Canadian High Commission, London and the Canadian Embassy, Dublin supported Deborah’s tour of Ireland with her Canadian program, Northern Nights.

Recently the Ontario Arts Council awarded Deborah a research grant to collect stories from Parks Canada sites in Eastern Ontario. Each year Deborah performs and leads workshops for thousands through her association with The Storytellers School of Toronto, The Writers’ Union of Canada and Mariposa In The Schools.

Deborah has a deep commitment to the preservation and perpetuation of the storytelling art form through public performances and educational workshops. She has set up numerous outreach programs in Eastern Ontario where tellers network with other community organizations for storytelling events.

As the founding member of The 1000 Islands Yarnspinners in Brockville, Ontario Deborah continues to lead and host monthly gatherings. For six consecutive seasons Deborah co-produced the Brockville Storyfest, bringing highly acclaimed Canadian tellers to the region.

Deborah wrote and produced for Jim Henson Productions as well as creating five of her own award winning recordings (American Library Award and Parents’ Choice Awards). She has appeared on YTV’s “Ants In Your Pants”, Nickelodeon’s “Eureka’s Castle” and CBC’s “Mister Dressup” and “Fred Penner’s Place”. Deborah is the author of “The Jumbo Book of Music” (2001) and “The Jumbo Book of Drama” (2004), Kids Can Press.

Deborah is a member of The Storytellers of Canada, The Storytellers School of Toronto, The Writers’ Union of Canada, The American Federation of Musicians, The Canadian Society of Authors, Illustrators and Performers, The Society of Composers Authors and Music Publishers, and The Canadian Children’s Book Centre.
